MIT Course Description: In this class students will learn the practical skills to be a safe open-water SCUBA diver. Class is split into two parts; the why and how of SCUBA diving which involves classroom and pool training, and open water swims. Upon completion of the course and open water dives students will receive a SCUBA Schools International (SSI) certification.

Course fee billed to student account includes instruction, classroom materials, equipment for pool session (mask, fin, snorkel, air) voucher for open water, SDI certification available once all requirements are completed (including open water dive). Note: there is a $175 non-refundable fee.
Prerequisite: Must be available for all class dates; Pass SCUBA pre-test on day 1 of class (200 yard swim and tread water for 10 minutes); able to lift 40 lbs and in good health. Registration is pending until student re-confirms with form provided by PE Office
Equipment: Bathing suit or shorts and shirt. All other equipment provided by United Divers for pool sessions. sessions. A mask, fins and a snorkel must be purchased for open water dives.
Waivers Required: MIT waiver due to the Physical Education Office. United Divers waiver due on day 1 of classes.
